Our Woven Being Community Room is a dedicated space within the exhibition for conversation, reflection, laughter, and relaxation.The space, designed to center our Indigenous community, is open to all.
On the first Wednesday evening of each month, stop by and join us for informal conversation and activities related to the themes of the exhibition. Drop-ins welcome and encouraged.
On April 2, multi-media artist Noelle Garcia (Klamath and Northern Paiute) will be taking over the drop-in hours to give us a peyote-stitch beading demonstration! There will be a limited number of beading kits available for those who want to practice beadwork fundamentals along with Noelle; it's also okay to just watch and learn. Bring your friends and join us for an evening of creativity and conversation with an expert beadwork artist!
Participation level – medium, visitors are welcome to drop-in at any time to enjoy informal conversation and activities with others.

About Noelle
Based in the Chicago area, Noelle Garcia is an artist and educator who focuses on themes of identity, family history and recovered narratives in her work. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Her paintings, drawings, and soft sculptures have been exhibited in galleries and institutions across the United States. Garcia has earned awards and fellowships at various institutions such as the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, the Nevada Arts Council, the Illinois Arts Council, and the American Indian Graduate Center.
Woven Being is part of Art Design Chicago, a citywide collaboration initiated by the Terra Foundation for American Art that highlights the city’s artistic heritage and creative communities. Lead support for Woven Being is generously provided by the Terra Foundation for American Art. Major support is provided by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. This project is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts , The Joyce Foundation, and by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council.
