THE STATE OF TEXAS VS MELISSA
(Sabrina van Tassel, 2020, 98 min, DCP)

RSVP

As the first woman of Hispanic descent in Texas to be sentenced to death row, Melissa Lucio faces an execution date of fewer than thirty days. Her story, captured by Sabrina van Tassel in the award-winning documentary, The State of Texas vs. Melissa, is a heart-wrenching and urgent example of justice rendered incorrectly. The film appears courtesy of FilmRise.

Join us for a screening, introduced by Jennifer Lackey (Director of the Northwestern Prison Education Program), followed by a Zoom conversation with a member of Lucio's family to learn more about Lucio's case and support ways to prevent the state of Texas from executing an innocent woman.

Presented with the Prison Education Program and Undergraduate Prison Education Partnership at Northwestern University. The film appears courtesy of FilmRise.
