Organized and introduced by Dave Filipi, Wexner Center for the Arts.

For the eighth year in a row, we're celebrating our national pastime with our annual program Rare Baseball Films that will entertain baseball fans of all ages. This year’s program draws on the Hearst Metrotone News Collection at the UCLA Film & Television Archive.

Before television became a fixture in people’s homes, theatrical newsreels were one of the few ways for fans to actually see players from around the country in action. The program includes Stan Musial’s 3000th hit (at Wrigley Field), Babe Ruth’s first spring training with the Boston Braves, Sandy Koufax’s retirement press conference, Jackie Robinson relaxing at home with his family, a promotion featuring June Allyson at Comiskey Park, and more!

Special thanks to Todd Wiener and Steven Hill of the UCLA Film & Television Archive for their assistance with this program.
