Details:

The Block Museum's exhibition, THE HEART'S KNOWLEDGE: SCIENCE AND EMPATHY IN THE ART OF DARIO ROBLETO, contains two long-form video works, which both combine animated imagery with the artist's voice-over narration to offer philosophical examinations of episodes in the history of science and technology.

THE BOUNDARY OF LIFE IS QUIETLY CROSSED (2019, digital video, color, 51 min, in collaboration with Skye Ashbrook, Bill Haddad, and Patrick Feaster) meditates on the social and scientific history of the human heart, focusing on the inclusion of Ann Druyan's heartbeats and brainwaves on the famous Voyager Golden Record in 1977.

THE AORTA OF AN ARCHIVIST (2021, digital video, 53 min, in collaboration with Skye Ashbrook and Bill Haddad) traces three “firsts” in the history of recording: the first time live music and singing were recorded, the first time brain waves were recorded in a dream state, and the first time a human heartbeat was recorded while listening to music.

This screening, to be held in the Block Museum's auditorium, will feature open-captioned versions of these works.

THE BOUNDARY OF LIFE IS QUIETLY CROSSED will begin at 2pm.

THE AORTA OF AN ARCHIVIST will begin at 3pm.
